Homeopathy is based on the principle of "like cures like". The remedies, which are generally dilutions of natural substances from plants, minerals, and animals, are selected to specifically match a person's individual symptom pattern.
Proponents of homeopathy recommend it not just for physical ailments but for emotions. Keep in mind, however, that these remedies aren't proven and they should never replace medical care.
The main homeopathic remedy for sudden shock with intense fear, panic, and urgency. There is an overwhelming fear that one's life has been threatened. This remedy is often recommended for anxiety after a severe fright.
This remedy is often useful for delayed shock when the person insists they are fine and denies that anything is wrong. He or she wants to be alone. There may be physical injury with bruises, bleeding or soreness.
If a person feels extremely weak, sluggish, and exhausted after a shock, this remedy may be indicated. The person may also feel cold and faint, yet crave fresh air. Emotionally, there may be indifference and confusion.
A homeopath may recommend this remedy if a person feels paralyzed with fear or grief after hearing bad news. He or she is trembling and may feel weak and exhausted. Not wanting to speak or have anyone nearby and not knowing what to do next also indicate this remedy.
The remedy Ignatia may suggested if there is great sensitivity and nervousness after hearing bad news. The mood is often highly changeable, and the person may feel drained and numb with a desire to be alone. The person may sigh and have the sensation of a lump in the throat.
Shock with fear, rage and nightmares may indicate this remedy. The person may have physical or mental complaints after a fright involving violence or a narrowly escaped death. He or she is worse at night and may have nightmares.
