Geranium: A Stress-Easing Essential Oil?

By June 26, 2013

In aromatherapy, geranium essential oil has long been used to alleviate stress and help treat emotional troubles. Sourced from the flowers and leaves of the Pelargonium graveolens plant, geranium essential oil is also said to lift mood and lessen anxiety.

So far, very few scientific studies have tested the potential benefits of geranium essential oil. However, it's possible that using this oil in combination with other relaxing essential oils (such as lavender and rose) may help ease your mind.

When using any type of essential oil, it's crucial to combine the oil with a carrier oil (such as jojoba, sweet almond, or avocado) before applying it to your skin or adding it to your bath. You can also use an aromatherapy diffuser or vaporizer, or sprinkle a few drops of the oil onto a cloth or tissue and then breathe in its aroma.
