Combating Cancer with Calcium D-Glucarate

Calcium D-glucarate is a substance made by combining calcium and glucaric acid, a chemical found naturally in the human body (as well as in foods like apples, broccoli, kale, and squash). Proponents claim that taking supplements containing calcium D-glucarate can strengthen your defense against certain types of cancer, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer.

In preliminary research on animals, scientists have found that calcium D-glucarate can help inhibit beta-glucuronidase (an enzyme associated with increased cancer risk when it occurs at elevated levels). In addition, some animal-based studies suggest that calcium D-glucarate may help protect against cancer by curbing inflammation and inducing apoptosis (a type of programmed cell death essential for stopping the proliferation of cancer cells).

To reduce your cancer risk, it's important to follow a balanced diet high in antioxidant-rich vegetables and fruits, exercise regularly, and keep your weight in check. There's also some evidence that people who drink green tea and maintain optimal levels of vitamin D may have a lower risk of some types of cancer.
