Can PGX Promote Weight Loss?

By March 15, 2012

Follow me on:

A proprietary dietary supplement, PGX contains a class of carbohydrates known as polysaccharides. Also rich in fiber, PGX is often touted as a natural weight loss aid.

Proponents claim that taking PGX supplements can tame your hunger and stamp out food cravings. But while preliminary research suggests that PGX may influence certain hormones involved in making you feel full, it's too soon to recommend PGX for weight loss.

A number of other natural substances have been found to reduce hunger and support weight loss efforts. For instance, in a small study published in the journal Physiology and Behavior last year, scientists found that eating cayenne helped ease appetite and rev up calorie-burning in participants. Previous research indicates that capsaicin (the substance that gives cayenne its spicy kick) may have appetite-suppressing effects.

CATHY, I ENJOY YOUR ARTICLES, BUT it seems you are caving into the real problem(s) in nutrition. the attitude that big pharms want us to have. “results arent in yet, too soon to recommend…etc”
vitamins have NEVER hurt anyone and toxic pills have quite often. there s almost no danger of an OD with vitamins, but its easy in allopathic meds. Give it a break, just leave it out, you are pesenting th news not makng a recommendation here.
Pharms want control, of food and supplements. If you dont believe do more research, it is like they want us all, to get FDA approval for anything we ingest…. they approve genetically modified foods, but humans cannot even grow a blade of grass!…smart huh? we plant seed and water – but that is all. Dont give them any help. By statements like that. What leads you to feel that ‘they’ test what they sell, any better…they do not! Vaccines have had no tests at all NONE. yet we many of us, take the flu shot each year…causing many problems by doing so. I wonder ….have you read that the FDA is making ARMED RAIDS on simple farmers just because they sell raw milk? I have no axe to grind, but check the board of monsanto, against all the gov. titles the same guys hold. I’m nobody and not into this thing very far, but I’ll link u if u want . thanks
