This directory includes a complete list of colleges regulated by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA), the non-profit organization that evaluates the quality of massage programs. Also includes tips on selecting a massage therapy program and upcoming continuing education classes and seminars.
Desert Institute of Healing Arts (Arizona)
Specializes in massage therapy, Zen shiatsu, and mind-body. Total 1,000 hours, including 77 clinical hours. Additional practical electives available, such as HIV/AIDS, cerebral palsy, and disabilities, and externship at Tuscon Medical Center.
Mueller College (California)
Massage program consists of 620 total hours, including 79 hour "hands-on". Two acupressure courses available. Community outreach integrated into curriculum.
Core Institute (Florida)
Massage program consists of 650 total hours. Specific clinical hours not listed on web site. Asian focus on Tuina massage, Five Element theory, Shiatsu, and Thai massage. Also offers sports massage, polarity, and Trager.
Educating Hands School of Massage (Florida)
This massage program offers 624 total hours, including 30 clinic hours. Good variety of electives, including Hoshimo, Shiatsu, craniosacral, energy, and movement therapies. Significant hydrotherapy component.
Atlanta School of Massage (Georgia)
No online curriculum available. School offers three programs: Integrated Massage and Deep Tissue Program, Clinical Massage, and Wellness Massage and Spa Therapies.
Wellness and Massage Training Institute (Illinois)
Massage program offers total 770 hours, including 100 clinic hours. Variety of electives includes prenatal, elderly, skin diseases, craniosacral, shiatsu, acupressure, nutrition, and prescription medications.
Downeast School of Massage (Maine)
Core massage program also includes reflexology and hydrotherapy. No program hours given. Specializing in sports, shiatsu, and mind-body. Community outreach program.
Healing Hands Institute for Massage Therapy (New Jersey)
Massage program offers total 600 hours. Advanced studies available in order to meet out-of-state licensing requirements, such as New York. Significant shiatsu component.
New Jersey Somerset School of Massage Therapy (New Jersey)
Massage program consists of 550 total hours, including 100 clinic hours. HIV awareness, prenatal, trigger point, sports massage, and reflexology are included in the curriculum.
Body Therapy Institute (North Carolina)
Program offers 650 total hours. No online curriculum. Focus on energy work, mind-body, and inner development.
East West College of Healing Arts (Oregon)
Total 600 hours with option for advanced study. Clinical 67 hours. Students can focus on electives, such as deep tissue, myofascial, acupressure, sports, energy, bodywork, Thai, and craniosacral. Licensed graduates can work at one of the three clinics to begin building their practices.
Lauterstein-Conway Massage School (Texas)
Massage program offers craniosacral, energy, advanced bodywork, shiatsu, deep tissue, and hydrotherapy.
