BluePrint Cleanse Review

Started by two former Manhattan bartenders, one a raw foodist, BluePrint Cleanse (http://blueprintcleanse.com) offers a juice cleanse “liberated from the rigid dogma and new-age aesthetics of the raw food universe and made more accessible to more people.”

With modern packaging, excellent customer service and delivery, and tasty juices, the founders have taken their years of experience in the Manhattan hospitality industry and have created a packaged juice cleanse that is doable, though still challenging, for busy people.

Types of Cleanses:

Blueprint Cleanse offers three levels of cleanse, depending on your lifestyle and eating habits. Renovation is designed for the beginner, the “I’ll have my martini with a side of steak, please” type. Foundation is designed for “active, busy people who exercise and have tried many different diets but either can’t get their hands on fresh, whole food, or simply don’t have the time”, and Excavation is the most intense level, designed to “flood your body with chlorophyll, restore your alkaline balance, and seriously rest your insides so they can finally unearth those crayons you ate when you were three”.

Each cleanse includes six 16-ounce juices a day. The Renovation cleanse contains the most fruit (therefore is most sweet) and offers the most variety. As you go up in levels there is more green vegetable juice and less of the other juices.

Mantra:

“We Think. You Drink.”

The Juices:

I tried the Renovation cleanse. The bottles were conveniently sequentially numbered from one to six, making them easy to organize in the fridge and identify what juice to drink next. Here’s a list of the juices that were included:

Day 1:
  1. Green Juice
  2. P.A.M. (Pineapple, Apple, Mint)
  3. Green Juice
  4. Spicy Lemonade
  5. C.A.B. (Carrot, Apple, Beet)
  6. Cashew Milk
Day 2:
  1. Green Juice
  2. P.A.M. (Pineapple, Apple, Mint)
  3. Green Juice
  4. Spicy Lemonade
  5. C.A.B. (Carrot, Apple, Beet
  6. Cashew Milk
Day 3:
  1. Green Juice
  2. P.A.M. (Pineapple, Apple, Mint)
  3. Green Juice
  4. Spicy Lemonade
  5. C.A.B. (Carrot, Apple, Beet
  6. Cashew Milk

A couple of features distinguished BluePrint from other packaged juice cleanses. BluePrint's juices are 100% USDA certified organic. Also, BluePrint's juices undergo high pressure pascalization, an innovative technology which sterilizes without the use of heat (pasteurization) or preservatives, allowing the juices to stay raw. What this means is that other juice cleanses are only fresh for three days from the delivery date, but BluePrint Juices are good for six days from the delivery date.

According to the nutritional information for the Renovation cleanse, there are 1070 calories each day and 180 grams per sugar.

The Taste:

While the juices were a little on the sweet side for me, they all tasted great and were easy to drink. Some of the drinks were sweetened with agave, which I normally avoid. Being an avid juicer, I would probably opt for the Excavation cleanse in the future, which includes four green juices per day.

Support:

Three days before the cleanse, I received an email confirming the details of my order and offering tips on how to prepare with cheerful instructions: "LISTEN UP! NO farewell-to-solid-foods-with-a-steak-and-martini dinner the night before you start. You will NOT be a happy camper by the end of Day One." There was a sample preparation menu and an email address for any questions. A Facebook page and Twitter account are other methods of interacting.

The day of the cleanse, I got an encouraging email with further instructions and tips. I received the final email on the last day of the cleanse with tips on how to break the cleanse.

The juice shipment also came with a handy card summarizing the essentials: the order of juices, additional therapies to consider, cleansing reactions and detox symptoms, acceptable cheat foods, contact information for support, and post-cleanse tips and a menu.

Cost:

A three-day cleanse costs $195 plus FedEx overnight shipping (for example, $30 for shipping to Boston).

Logistics:

Smooth. Ordering the cleanse on the BluePrint website is easy and the order arrived by 9 am on the delivery day. Juice for the entire three-day cleanse was delivered at once (if ordering a five-day cleanse, there are two shipments for maximum freshness) in a box with an insulated, neatly folded bag. The bottles were packed neatly and securely with plenty of ice packs.

BluePrint cleanses are currently available in the continental United States and Canada. FedEx Priority Overnight delivery is Tuesday through Friday. Most packages arrive by 10:30 am depending on your location and they are guaranteed to arrive by 4:30 pm. They recommend starting the cleanse the day of delivery and having tea and fruit until it arrives or beginning the next day.

In certain cities in New York, California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, and Georgia, pick up at an affiliated location (often a spa or yoga center) is available. Local delivery is available in New York City and Los Angeles. In New York City, there are three delivery windows.

Once the order is confirmed, there are no refunds. Cancellations are accepted up until three days prior to the start date. Requests for refund due to medical issues are handled on an individual basis and require a doctor's proof of condition.

Other Offerings:

Besides the three staple BluePrint cleanses, there is an Exhale Spa package that includes classes at Exhale Spa and a spa treatment, and BluePrint Bride. Six-packs of the green juice, spicy lemonade, or a combination of P.A.M., spicy lemonade, and cashew milk are also available. Individual juices are available in select stores throughout the United States.

Bottom Line:

A seamless, user-friendly experience, from beginning to end. There were no surprises and nothing was unexpected. The juices all tasted great, but juice aficionados may prefer their green juices to be less sweet or want more variety at the advanced level (Excavation). I liked that individual juices are available in certain cities for people to supplement and maintain after the cleanse.
