Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease involving the central nervous system (CNS) - the nerves that comprise the brain and spinal cord. There is a destruction of the myelin sheath, which covers nerve fibers. There is also a destruction of axons, which carry electrical impulses away from the nerve cell.
