The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) is one of the 27 institutes and centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NCCAM was established by Congress in 1998 and is the U.S. federal government's center for scientific research on alternative medicine.
As part of its mission, NCCAM funds clinical trials on the safety and effectiveness complementary and alternative treatments and therapies.
