Soothing Menopausal Symptoms with Progesterone Cream

By January 17, 2013

For midlife women experiencing menopausal symptoms, a natural remedy known as progesterone cream is sometimes recommended in treatment of symptoms like hot flashes and protection against osteoporosis. Containing a type of hormone that can be produced from soy or wild yam (Dioscorea villosa), progesterone cream is often used as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy.

So far, studies on the use of progesterone cream among menopausal women have yielded conflicting results. While some research shows that that progesterone cream may help manage menopausal symptoms and preserve bone health, other studies indicate that progesterone cream may be of little or no benefit to women going through menopause.

While no natural remedy has been proven to alleviate menopausal symptoms, there's some evidence that herbs like black cohosh and red clover may help cool hot flashes.
