Loading up on certain antioxidants might help keep your blood pressure  in check, according to a recent study from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Analyzing data on 156,957 adults, the study's authors found that those with the highest intake of anthocyanins (a type of antioxidant found in a number of fruits) had an eight percent reduced risk of high blood pressure (compared to those with the lowest anthocyanin intake).

Although most of the study participants got their anthocyanins from strawberries and blueberries, the antioxidants are also available in tart cherries, bilberry, acai, chokeberry, and elderberry. In addition to possibly boosting heart health, anthocyanins have been found to strengthen the immune system and fight inflammation.
