Tired in the Morning?

Thursday March 27, 2008
A reader asks, "Is there a tea or some type of herbal spray or remedy that can energize people who have trouble waking and getting started in the morning?"

Any type of stress, whether it's work stress, everyday worries, or family difficulties can make it difficult to fall asleep and to stay asleep, which can leave you feeling tired and unrefreshed in the morning. Diaphragmatic breathing is a simple technique that may help to reduce anxiety. Meditation and regular yoga practice are other options.

Is your bedroom too dark when you wake up in the morning? If so, it may be a reason why you feel sluggish. Light exposure plays a key role in telling the body when to go to sleep and when to wake up.

That's because the hormone melatonin, which helps with sleep, is produced in darkness. On the other hand, light—especially sunlight—causes the production of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which helps us wake up.

One way to increase morning light is to open your drapes or blinds just before going to bed so that the morning light fills your room (doing it after you wake up doesn't work as well). Read my full answer: Tired in the Morning?

Here are some tips for people who want to have a good night sleep and wake up fresh:
1. Do not eat food past 7 p.m and avoid drinking past that time.
2. Go to bed on time: no later than 10 p.m.
3. Do not watch TV in bed, do not read in bed, instead, do meditation or Qigong.
4. Very important: massage your feet,up to 10 minutes each, massage your scalp. Do that before your meditation/Qigong practice.
5. Mentally suggest to yourself that you are going to have a good night sleep and will wake up fresh and rested.

This may sound like you need to change some of your habits but it works very well. Getting a good night sleep is very important–it will affect your whole day! So don’t wait, start tonight!

I used to feel exhausted in the mornings like I could not get out of bed and didn’t know why. Then I got a simple hormone panel test done and found out that my Cortisol levels were at just 0.2! It turns out I have a rare disease called Addison’s and in the 23 years I was provided with Healthcare at Kaiser Permanente they never bothered to test my hormones. Why are doctors so afraid of hormones??? Getting a hormone panel at ultimatemedresearch.com not only saved my life but now I have the energy to enjoy life. Try it out!
