Gatlin's Coach Blames Massage Therapist, Johnson Dismisses Claims
Tuesday August 1, 2006
Former Olympic champion sprinter Michael Johnson has dismissed claims from Justin Gatlin's coach that a massage therapist is to blame for Gatlin's failed drug tests. Gatlin, an Olympic and world 100m champion, tested positive at the Kansas Relays in April.
Gatlin's coach, Trevor Graham, accused a massage therapist of deliberately sabotaging Gatlin by rubbing testosterone gel/cream onto his legs without his knowledge. Johnson wrote in the Daily Telegraph, "That's a new twist on an old excuse and Graham has no credibility."
Johnson added, "Not because I have suspected that Justin was doping — I've always had a lot of respect for him — but there has always been one thing about him that has bothered me: his association with coach Trevor Graham." Several of Graham's clients are serving drug bans.
