New York Yankees first baseman Jason Giambi is being tested for a parasite called entamoeba histolytica, which can cause a potentially fatal condition called amebiasis. Amebiasis is the third leading parasitic cause of death worldwide, surpassed only by malaria and schistosomiasis, however, it can be treated with oral anti-parasitic medication. Giambi had been feeling weak for months and it was discovered earlier this season that he had intestinal parasites.
