Natural Treatments for Acne

Two reports published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology show that the prevalence of adult acne has greatly increased over the last decade. In 1979, 34 percent of women between the ages of 25 and 39 reported having blemishes and in 2000 that figure had risen to 54 percent, according to a report published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2001.

The alarming rise in obesity may partially be to blame. Increased insulin production can signal the body to release extra male hormones, called androgens, which are involved in pimple formation.
