Nutritional Supplements to Build Muscle

Sports supplements are big business. They promise to build muscle and improve performance, strength, and speed. Some of these products have been used for years and have evidence supporting their use, while others are new and relatively unknown. In this article, I describe the various sports supplements that are reputed to increase muscle mass or improve the ratio of muscle to fat, such as phosphatidylserine, chromium, pyruvate, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), lipoic acid, gamma oryzanol, branched-chain amino acids (BCAA), and the hormones DHEA and androstenedione.
